Interest in endocrine disruptors has grown, driven by concern for consumer safety and the constant and challenging requirement to provide safe cosmetic products. The scientific challenge of assessing the impact of cosmetic products on human health and safety and ensuring adequate validation methods are used is an important public health matter.

Eurofins is one of the major players in this type of cosmetic product testing, having developed a combined in vitro method to screen potential endocrine disruptors, based on existing test methods and approaches. As a member of many international committees, and with a team of dedicated experts, Eurofins carries out important assessment work on the Placentox method. PEPPER Platform’s strategy of performing method and assay pre-validation within (eco)toxicology is aligned with the Eurofins Group’s mission to contribute to a safer and healthier world. Together, PEPPER and Eurofins will work on specific projects; in particular, organising testing of the Placentox method, with the aim of submitting this method and required scientific reports to international validation bodies.

About PEPPER Platform

PEPPER is the first public private Platform dedicated to the pre-validation of endocrine disruptors characterization methods. The project has been piloted by stakeholders from both industrial sectors and ministerial divisions. It is part of the National Strategy on Endocrine Disruptors (SNPE), designed by the ministries in charge of Health and in charge on the Environment.

The platform aims to perform the prevalidation of methods and assays in toxicology and ecotoxicology, that have been identified as relevant for the characterization of endocrine disruption properties. The platform will ensure that candidate methods are of sufficient quality, and will build up the proofs that are required by the international bodies in charge of validation (OECD, ECVAM, ISO, CEN ..). Once validated by the bodies in charge of mutual acceptance, such methods can be used in dossiers related to regulations on substances (REACh, Biocides, Phytopharmaceuticals…), products (e.g. medical devices), or environments (e.g. Water Framework Directive).
