QACS Lab at Boost Your Test, preservatives synergistic effect and their impact on Skin Microbiome [Booth R88]

QACS Lab has always been motivated by the latest technical innovations aiming to supply customer emerging needs. Evolving demands for skin friendly, mild and safe cosmetics resulted to the development of studies on the preservatives synergistic effect and their impact on Skin Microbiome.

Challenge Tests

Microbiological safety and Preservative Efficacy Testing (PET) are key regulatory requirements. PET also known as Challenge Testing, is the appropriate test to ensure product robustness and prove preservation efficacy against microbial contamination. Methodologies may follow pharmacopoeias, international standards, industry or in house developed protocols. QACS, The Challenge Test Laboratory, provides:

  • Test according to ISO 11930
  • Vegan challenge
  • Pharmacopeia EP
  • Wet wipe protocol
  • Mixed culture test
  • Re-inoculation

Microbiome Analysis

Though necessary, antimicrobial activity of cosmetic preservatives and long-term cosmetic usage may cause adverse skin effects by disrupting the normal skin microflora. QACS provides microbiological/molecular methods and clinical trials for Microbiome Friendly and Microbiome Balance claims.

  • Microbiome Friendly: reveals information about the product’s effect on the skin microbiome and it is an in vitro study.
  • Microbiome Balance:
    • Basic package: skin swab samples, microbiological and physiological analyses. The study reveals the product effect on different microbe groups.
    • Standard package: Basic, but also including species identification in selected bacterial colonies. This package provides more detailed information on the skin microbiome composition.
    • Premium package: skin swab samples, microbiological and physiological analyses along with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis. Bioinformatics and statistical results make this package the most accurate to reveal the effect of your product on the entire skin microbiome during the study period.
